The new People’s Salvation Cathedral is born, inaugurated in Bucharest at the end of 2018. It is the highest orthodox cathedral in the world, with 120-metre-high bell towers: an impressive work, whose project will end in 2026.

The cathedral’s prestige is made even more unique by the mosaics that decorate the iconography of the dome as well as the iconostasis; realized by artist and mosaicist Daniel Codrescu and his team with Orsoni Venezia 1888 enamels and golds.

Over 4 million tesserae separate the nave of the cathedral from the Sanctuary: the largest Orthodox iconostasis in the world, 23.8 meters long and 17.1 wide. A team of specialists worked 10 months to complete the 8-ton mosaic, giving birth to a precious work of art.

In May 2019, the iconography of the Mother of God – Theotokos Platytera – was completed in the dome of the altar. Deeply representative of the Romanian spirit, the icon has been studied in detail and elaborated specifically for the cathedral as a visual connection with the iconostasis below.
