Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
Orsoni Venezia 1888 participated in the provision of the mosaics for the decoration of the inner domes of the Basilica, realized with the same ancient process of master glassmakers.
This Basilica is the largest Catholic church in the United States and North America and is among the ten largest churches in the world.

In the fall of 2005, following a break of over 35 years, the National Shrine resumed work on the decoration of the inner domes of the Upper Church with the use of Orsoni Venezia’s golds and Venetian smalti. The project was completed on December 8th, 2017.
The magic and uniqueness of these ceilings – which tell a story written with glass, color and gold – are shaped with 14 million mosaic tesserae and over 1,000 colors, creating a work of art of truly impressive dimensions.

The major intervention was in the dome located in the heart of the Basilica. A mosaic in a 3,780 square-foot surface area, divided into four parts depicting as many redemptive deeds of Jesus. A masterpiece executed with the commitment of master craftsmen and a meticulous attention to details for the best quality in the world.
